Welcome! We’ve been at Southwell Leisure Centre for over 20 years. Our style is “Wado Ryu”. We have a group of about twenty members ranging from white to black belt, aged five to seventy. We specialise in Karate, Kickboxing and Self-Defence.
We are closed 30th March and 6th April. We will reopen 13th April.

Classes
Our Classes
Get fit and have fun at the same time! We teach any age from 5 upwards on Saturdays from 11:00am to 12:30pm in the leisure centre’s squash courts. Disciplines you can learn include: Kicking, Punching, Blocking, Self Defence and Kata’s (Pattern Forms). We also practice Sparring where we provide the mandatory protective gear for the head, hands, shins and feet.
Personal Progress
We’ll help you progress through the belts, refining your technique and gaining confidence. It’s a great way of teaching discipline and skill at any age. Gradings to obtain a higher belt are every four months up to Purple Belt level, and every six months from Brown and above. To achieve your Black Belt, you will need a good deal of dedication, and training weekly for up to four years.
Expert Tuition
Our instructors Kyaw Maung (5th Dan Black Belt) and Bill Edwards (7th Dan Black Belt) and will help you progress at your own speed. They will teach you the basics, as well as what you need to pass each grading. We also have regular lessons in self defence to learn how to protect yourself in real-life situations. It’s a great way to see how the Karate skills you have gained, can be applied in different scenarios.
